East Anglian Young Composers Competition

Cambridge Youth Musc has run a very successful annual composing competition for young people in Cambridgeshire since 2006. In 2017 the competition was opened up to young composers across East Anglia as part of a new collaboration with Aldeburgh Young Musicians at Snape Maltings, Suffolk. We hope this will ensure the competition continues to run well into the future.

The competition is open to young people aged 17 and under in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Herts and Cambridgeshire. Composing workshops held in the spring provide practical help with composing for the instruments involved. All entries are performed by professional musicians at the regional finals in the autumn in Cambridge and Snape, with individual feedback and advice provided by the judge and musicians. A Winners Concert is held in Cambridge as part of the Cambridge Festival of Ideas in October.

Details of the 2018 competition can be found here.

Cambridge Competitive Music Festival

This Festival, first begun in 1934, aims to encourage musicians of all abilities to share their music with others and to receive advice and encouragement from experienced professional musicians. It takes place in March and offers over 100 classes for instrumentalists and singers. Further information from the Festival website.

Cambridge Young Musician of the Year

The Cambridge Young Musician of the Year competition was held in 2006, 2008 and 2010. CYM regrets that it has not had the manpower to run the competition since then. Details of the first three competitions can be found via the links top left.
