Cambridge Youth Music (CYM) is a Charitable Trust launched in May 2005 by a group of local musicians and parents to provide support and opportunities for young musicians. Since 2011 it has focussed on supporting young composers.
From 2006 CYM ran the annual Cambridge Young Composer of the Year Competition providing a platform for talented young composers aged 18 and under in Cambridgeshire. In 2017 the competition was expanded to become the East Anglian Young Composer Competition, extending opportunities for young composers into Herts, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.
From 2023, the competition element was abandoned and the event continued as a Young Composers Workshop, providing the same support and opportunities for young composers aged 21 and under. In 2023 it became part of the annual Cambridge Summer Music Festival held each July. View details of the 2025 Young Composers Workshop.
In 2006, 2008 and 2010 CYM also ran a performing competition, the Cambridge Young Musician of the Year. |
